Release: Liza Harvey Betrays Businesses With Trading Hours Reversal
The Australian Taxpayers’ Alliance (ATA), a 75,000+ member national grassroots advocacy group representing the nation’s taxpayers, today condemned newly minted WA Liberal Opposition leader Liza Harvey for reversing her predecessor Mike Nahan’s commitment to liberalise trading hours for hardworking WA businesses.
“WA businesses are already doing it tough with a nationwide retail slump and some of the most antiquated and restricted shopping hours in the country.” Said Satya Marar, ATA Director of Policy.
“By reversing Mike Nahan’s commitment to reduce trading hour restrictions, the new opposition leader Liza Harvey is undermining her own credibility as a liberal and joining the chorus of social engineers and bureaucrats whose love of red tape is putting a boot to the neck of WA businesses.
“Ms. Harvey’s claim that there hasn’t been a push from this from the community on this is laughable since business leaders have been speaking out on the issue for years. The WA Liberals will have little chance of getting elected if they aren’t listening to members of their grassroots supporter base in small business.
“Allowing businesses to stay open and trade when they choose will provide them with a welcome boost that stimulates the whole economy, puts more money in workers’ pockets, creates jobs, makes us more competitive, and improves consumer choice, wellbeing and living standards.
“Challenging the McGowan government on this issue should be a no-brainer for any opposition leader worth their salt.”
