Labor Is Using Your Taxes to Fund Radical Gender Treatments – Here’s Why It Must Stop
The Australian government is using taxpayer dollars to fund gender treatments, including puberty blockers, cross-sex hormones, and surgeries—even for children and prisoners. While other countries are moving away from these radical interventions, Labor continues to stall, allowing taxpayer-funded procedures to continue unchecked.
Under growing public pressure, Health Minister Mark Butler has been forced to order a review of Australia’s “standards of care” for gender treatments. But instead of acting swiftly, the government has set a three-year timeline for the review. That means at least three more years of taxpayer-funded gender transitions, despite mounting evidence of their serious risks.
The Medical Risks Are Clear
Despite claims that gender-affirming treatments are safe and effective, a growing number of medical experts and international health authorities are reversing course on these procedures for minors. Puberty blockers and cross-sex hormones are not a neutral or reversible treatment—they come with lifelong consequences, including:
• Permanent sterility
• Reduced bone density
• Increased risk of heart disease
• Psychological distress and regret
In recent years, countries like the UK, Sweden, and Finland have conducted reviews and found the risks of these treatments outweigh the benefits for minors. As a result, they have either banned or severely restricted their use, shifting the focus toward evidence-based mental health care.
Australia must follow suit. But instead of acting decisively, the government is dragging its feet—allowing taxpayer dollars to fund procedures that other nations are actively moving away from.
Parental Rights Ignored, Children at Risk
One of the most alarming aspects of Australia’s taxpayer-funded gender treatments is the lack of parental oversight.
In Queensland, reports revealed that children as young as 12 were given puberty blockers without full parental consent or proper medical evaluation. This kind of medical negligence is unacceptable—yet it is being funded by your tax dollars.
Parents should have the final say in their child’s medical decisions, especially when it comes to irreversible treatments. Yet under Labor, ideology has taken precedence over both medical ethics and parental rights.
The U.S. Has Taken Action – Why Hasn’t Australia?
While Australia drags its feet, other nations are taking bold action to stop these dangerous treatments.
In the United States, President Trump signed an executive order banning taxpayer funding for gender treatments on children. Under this policy, the U.S. government will not fund, promote, or assist in any medical interventions that attempt to change a child’s sex.
Australia, on the other hand, continues to pour taxpayer dollars into gender clinics, funding irreversible treatments for minors while ignoring growing global concerns.
If countries like the UK, Sweden, and the U.S. are waking up to the dangers of these treatments, why is Australia still funding them with taxpayer money?
It’s Time to Hold Labor Accountable
The Australian Taxpayers’ Alliance is taking the fight to Labor, exposing their reckless use of public funds to push radical gender ideology.
But we can’t do it alone.
Taxpayers should not be forced to fund medical procedures that other nations are banning. That’s why we are demanding:
A full ban on taxpayer-funded gender treatments for minors
A parliamentary inquiry into the long-term effects of these procedures
Greater parental rights in all medical decisions involving minors
What Can You Do?
If you believe taxpayer money should not be funding radical gender ideology, now is the time to act.
The ATA is launching a major campaign to pressure politicians into ending public funding for these harmful procedures.
We will:
Campaign in key marginal Labor electorates to educate parents on how their taxpayer dollars are funding these treatments
Mobilise grassroots pressure, encouraging Australians to demand action from their MPs
Engage with media and policymakers to push for immediate policy changes
Labor is using your money to fund these treatments. Help us fight back.
With enough support, we can end taxpayer-funded gender ideology and hold the government accountable. This is a fight for medical integrity, parental rights, and responsible spending. Now is the time to stand up and stop Labor’s gender agenda.
