No to Net Zero
The Australian Taxpayers’ Alliance calls on Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison to resist pressure to mortgage Australia’s future on unobtainable ideals
Pursuing a Net-Zero emissions strategy will cripple the Australian economy, destroy jobs and mortgage our childrens’ futures to a political ideal.
The Hon. Prime Minister Scott Morrison,
Australians have shown a willingness to meet or exceed global standards in environmental protection without the threat of sanctions hanging over our heads. Despite not having ratified the Kyoto accord, Australia still managed to exceed the targets we would have been bound to if we had ratified the agreement.
The costs associated with lowering Australia’s emissions to net zero would involve an impact to Australia’s economy in the order of 16% of GDP annually. The worst case scenarios for global warming provided by the IPCC, used to justify Australia’s involvement would result in only a 10% annual reduction in GDP. The numbers simply don’t add up.
To mortgage our children’s and grandchildren’s futures on a political gamble is unacceptable. China currently produces the same volume of emissions in sixteen days as Australia creates in a year.
We urge you, Prime Minister, to avoid committing Australia to meeting a net-zero emissions strategy without a comprehensive cost-benefit analysis.
Signed,
