Release: Jackie Trad Must Stop Taking Taxpayers For Fools
The Australian Taxpayers’ Alliance, a 75,000+ member national grassroots advocacy group representing the nation’s taxpayers, today condemned the Queensland government’s economic mismanagement which is delivering record levels of state debt and forcing it to borrow more to fund infrastructure.
“Jackie Trad says that she’s only driving Queensland deeper into debt to fund the infrastructure that Queenslanders need. Yet her government is simultaneously splashing $320,000 in taxpayers’ funds to fly in Al Gore to lecture Australians about opposing mining projects which are crucial to the state’s revenue base. She is clearly taking hardworking taxpayers for fools.” Said Satya Marar, ATA Director of Policy.
“This year alone, mining royalties will add $5 billion in revenue to the state coffers, with coal exports delivering over $800 million. Yet the Queensland government has consistently stood in the way by imposing draconian levels of red tape on new projects.
“Jackie Trad and Anastasia Palaszczuk need to listen to the concerns of ordinary Queenslanders by standing up for development to boost their bottom-line instead of smashing the state’s taxpayers with $82 billion+ in debt which will be repaid with interest by our children and grandchildren.
“We call on the Queensland government to reduce its irresponsible reliance on runaway public debt, which is set to reach $1,920 for every household in the state, by 2021.”
