Their lives have been devastated, with some towns virtually wiped out, and it will take many years of hard work to rebuild their homes, businesses and communities.

Current laws place significant barriers of both time and cost in the way of the reconstruction efforts by locals who want to get their lives back together as quickly as possible.

To this end, I implore you to support the creation of Bushfire Special Economic Zones in those areas which have been worst affected. These zones will provide beneficial, temporary conditions which facilitate the rebuilding of communities, such as:

- Relaxed zoning laws and building permit requirements, allowing for the emergence of substantially different business and residential landscapes in post-fire communities.

- Increased freedom for landowners to perform land clearance around their properties, restoring confidence in residents faith in the continued viability of their homes.

- Fewer restrictions on tourism-related businesses, incentivising commercial activity which brings more people into the affected area, further driving economic recovery.



Bushfire-ravaged communities cannot wait the months and years it takes to work through the usual bureaucratic process. These people have suffered an astonishing amount, and many will suffer fires in the future. We as fellow Australians must ensure they can take as many steps forward as possible before they are forced to take their next step back.

I ask you humbly and with great hope, please work to create Bushfire Special Economic Zones and help those who have lost everything being to rebuild their lives and livelihoods.
