Release: Farewell, Cory

Australian Conservatives Senator Cory Bernardi’s 13-year career as an advocate for small government, common-sense lawmaking and responsible economic policies has come to an end today. The Australian Taxpayers’ Alliance (ATA) is deeply saddened by the departure of Senator Bernardi, whose deeply-held values of fairness and accountability were perhaps best exemplified when he was one of the only senators to vote against a pay rise for himself in 2017, insisting that Australian politicians produce a surplus for the country before they gave themselves a raise.

Senator Bernardi was a rare politician of principles who fought consistently for Australians regardless of the personal cost to him. While we will miss his presence in the halls of parliament, his retirement does ensure the ATA remains relevant - if all politicians were as committed to serving the people of Australia as Senator Cory Bernardi has been, we’d be out of a job.
