Digital ID and E-Safety Concerns
Your hard-earned money is misused by those in power. This time they government is using your money to fund a particularly egregious agenda: the government's Digital Identity legislation.
Why Trust the Government with Your Identity?
Talk to most normal people and they’ll tell you the government is hopeless. The government couldn’t organise a chook raffle, yet every single Australian citizen is meant to sit back and trust them to manage every aspect of your personal identity, and centralise all of this information, making a data breach more likely. And yet, after numerous data breaches, the government is poised to manage all your personal information this way.
The Fight Against the Digital Identity Bill
The ATA staunchly opposes the Digital Identity Bill. This bill is not just a threat to personal privacy; it represents a very real threat to your freedom and civil liberties. The Digital ID will become unavoidable and will control access to many basic services such as finance, transport, accommodation, communication, utilities, and more. This is an ungodly amount of power to be centralised in the hands of very mortal bureaucrats. They implicitly admit this by introducing safeguards against abuse and misuse of power, but history has taught us that the only effective safeguard is to ensure that power is never centralised too much in the first place. Whatever slight convenience we might gain in the moment is not worth the risk.
Our Chief Economist, Dr John Humphreys, recently made our stance clear at a public rally against this invasive bill. His participation underscores the importance of this issue and the need for immediate action. Watch it HERE.
‘E-safety’: the new thought polic
It's become clear that a tactic of bureaucrats is to encroach further on our everyday freedoms under the guise of keeping us “safe”. Although the government’s track record of identifying risks and keeping us “safe” has proven to be clueless at best, sinister at worst. ATA Economics Researcher Barclay McGain explains more in the Spectator Australia published late last week. Read it HERE.
Take Action Today
The battles against the Digital Identity Bill, and the egregious E-Safety commission are critical, and your voice is crucial. If you have concerns about the government’s plans, share them with your local Federal MP and spread the word on social media.
